network and research workgroup2 - African Architecture Network
Those present:
Professor Shihembetsa Laban (reporter)
Professor Verschure Han
Professor Mosha Livin
Professor Bensaid El Montacir
Professor Esho Lawrence

Summary:
One of the key-aspects in networking in research is :
-the capacity building issue or the possibility of developing schools and carrying out training.
The reporter also evoked the need for :
-a database which should display ongoing researches on the themes of African architecture and urban planning.
-funding with the obvious need to form a committee to carry the process forward and prepare a proposal on funding.

Key Areas of Address:
Mapping:
- Staff development going hand in hand with the whole issue of mobility and exchange. Most members recognized that there is a need to help upgrading some of their colleague’s academic levels and professional advancements through the possibility to apply for grants or scholarships. There is an obvious need to promote training and mobility of doctoral-level researchers. Also, joint researches on themes of common interest should be more promoted and made transparent between institutions.
As mentioned previously,
-a database focused on African architecture and urban planning should be created. There could be found data regarding conference papers, reviewed papers and published works.
-With the help of a committee, a proposal for funding should be made, with the help of special programmes such as Edulink or Mandela.

The conclusion for the Scheme:

With the outcome of this workgroup, it appears that the scope of the network is narrowed down to the sole area of education and research. The core of the network will be educational.
