Summary:
Members in this session agreed that there is a great need to improve communication and dissemination of information among scholars, institutions, practicing architects, planners, engineers, and the general public as a while both in Africa and in Europe, and perhaps in the distant future to include the United States of America. It is suggested that we need to start building a website where people can go and obtain information on African Architecture. The site should serve as a avenue for dissemination of information on conferences, workshops, exhibitions, call for papers, and seminars, journals, books, and general resources.

Key Areas of Address:
Mapping:
-This will include constructing a website that will feature the exact locals, places, regions, and networking institutions, universities, professional organizations, individuals, schools, bibliographic resources, journals, as well as biographical information on who is who on African architecture. It should also include recent information on buildings with specific histories. Finally, it should be an avenue in which resources can be pulled together for mutual sharing among colleagues and the general public.

-Priorities to be addressed as soon as the opportunity arises:
-Identify the existing institutions, universities, colleges, professional organizations, and agencies.
-Who is the main contact person in the in professional organization?
-Who is the head of the organization?
-What is the focus of the organization?
-Who is the webmaster?
-What are the email addresses and the phone numbers for the main contact person?
-What are the hours and languages of communication should be obvious.
In the case of Educational Institutions:
-What is the institution?
-Who is the Director?
-Who is the main contact person?
-What is the email address for the main contact person?
-What is the telephone number for the main contact person?
-Who are the teachers?
-What do the teachers specialize in?
-What are the research resources?
-What is doing what research?
-Is there any link to professional practice?
-Does the institution have architectural design?
-Does it have landscape design?
-Does it participate in heritage sites conservation?
-What are the ongoing thesis topics?
-Does it teach urban design?
-Does it teach interior design?
-What is the institution’s main strength or areas of specialty?
-What are the studio pedagogies?
-Where is it located and in what building?
-How large is the institution?
-When was it founded?
-What are the courses offered and what is the program outline?
-What degrees are offered and how long does it take to complete?
-Who are the alumni and what are they doing in the field?
-What is the brief history of the institution?
-How does this institution relate to other professional agencies in the country of location, Africa, and the world as a whole? Does it have exchange programs?

The Challenge for the Scheme:

The biggest challenge is who will build and manage the site and how would it be maintained?
One of the consensus reached was:" We do not have the resources or the institution that can freely build this website on the scale envisioned at this moment. Any effort has to be incremental and it has to start with existing infrastructure wherever that may be". For that reason, it would be more cautious to start by building upon the existing media of dissemination in the hands of ArchiAfrika, La Cambre, Africalia, French-speaking Africa, Portuguese-speaking Africa, and English-speaking Africa, as well as in North African Arabic institutions. Also, Nnamdi Elleh at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, volunteered to help compile the information in the near future and to forward them to the appropriate persons/agencies who will be in charge of the website or who are building the website.
